In the Footsteps of Alfred is a collection of black and white photographs taken in New York City locations where Alfred Stieglitz may have placed his feet, in a spirit he championed.
His contributions to the art of photography remain critical to showing us what is possible. What started for me as the search for a truncated cityscape slowly became a study of approach and vision. This is not an homage to one of the craft’s great early masters, but rather a meditation on dedication, process, and practice.
Alfred Stieglitz was once asked “How does a photographer learn?” He answered without even a second’s hesitation: “By looking.” So I did.

What’s Been Said about “In the Footsteps of Alfred”:
“David Comora has a “beautiful mind”. He continues to surprise the viewer with a blend of classic images that have subtle, poetic meaning. David then veers sharply, taking a turn towards an exploration of the power to observe images “side by side” suggesting new meanings. He also tackles the difficult concept of “photography and language” with quick wit and intelligence.”
Barbara Mensch (2021)
“Stieglitz would walk the streets thinking of what the next shot would be. He had the luxury of time, time to compose, time to take the next shot, time to set it up. Time to think. In the day and age when we don't think before we shoot, when we don't take the time to walk-about with wonder of our own neighborhood, our own time, David Comora has done just that. Comora has done a little more than just walk in the footsteps of the master. He's embodied the essence of the idea of photography. Taking the time to see.”
